To define self-consumption of electricity, we will refer to the BOE.
In accordance with the provisions of Article 9.1 of Law 24/2013, of December 26, 2013, self-consumption shall be understood as the consumption by one or several consumers of electricity from production facilities close to those of consumption and associated with them.
In other words, self-consumption is a practice in which consumers generate their own energy and use it to cover their electricity needs. Instead of relying solely on the grid, users will be able to install renewable energy generation systems to produce electricity in a sustainable manner. Self-consumption offers many advantages, both from an economic and environmental point of view.
The advantages of self-consumption of electricity
Self-consumption of electricity has several relevant benefits.
- First, it will enable consumers to reduce their dependence on the electricity grid and changing energy prices. Consumers will be able to control their energy spending and protect themselves from electricity rate increases.
- Energy efficiency is also promoted, since they make maximum use of the energy generated. Excess electricity can be stored or returned to the grid for later use.
- Self-consumption energy is also more sustainable and environmentally friendly. In this way, the use of fossil fuels and the emission of greenhouse gases are avoided. This will contribute to the fight against climate change.
- Self-consumption promotes energy efficiency. Self-consumption is closely linked to energy efficiency. By generating and using their own electricity, consumers will optimize their consumption and minimize energy losses.
- Self-consumption promotes the responsible use of energy by raising awareness of consumption habits. Consumers will become more aware of the energy they use and how they can maximize efficiency. This will include actions such as turning off appliances on standby, using energy-saving light bulbs or making the most of natural light.
- Economic savings. By generating their own electricity, consumers will reduce their energy bills in the long run. The savings and independence of the grid will offset the initial cost of the installation.

Steps to generate and use your own electricity
Although the process of generating your own electricity may seem complicated, it is simpler than it sounds. These are the basic steps to launch into self-consumption:
- Evaluate the electrical consumption: Start by researching how much electricity you currently use in your home or business. This will help you to size the power generation system.
- Investigate renewable energy generation options: There are several options for generating your own electricity, such as different types of solar panels.
- Install your self-consumption system: Hire qualified professionals who ensure that all rules and regulations are followed.
- Connect your system to the grid: You may need to connect your self-consumption system to the grid. This will allow you to return excess electricity and receive it when your system is not producing enough power.
- Monitor your consumption: Use tools to monitor your electricity consumption and optimize its use. This will help you maximize efficiency and further reduce your dependence on the grid.
Hybrid panels and self-consumption
Hybrid solar panels are a mixture of solar thermal panels and photovoltaic panels. Thanks to the fusion of both technologies, they will produce electricity and heat at the same time on the same surface.
This will reduce the space needed to install the panels and take advantage of the solar energy, since only one panel is needed for both functions.

Moreover, they will be more efficient than other solar panels, since they manage to dissipate part of the heat generated in a photovoltaic panel.
At Abora Solar we have designed, developed and manufactured the most cost-effective solar panel in the world, with an efficiency of 89%, achieving a certified world record.
Each panel can produce the same energy as 4 photovoltaic panels (reducing 4 times the CO2 produced).
As a result, it is the solar panel that generates the most energy per m2, maximizing the use of the roof of your building, a fact to take into account in limited spaces.
In addition, Abora Solar is a national and European benchmark company based in Zaragoza (Spain). The Solar Keymark certification, awarded in May 2022, proves this. A distinguished certification that reaffirms Abora as a European reference in the sector.
