According to the NGO Carbon Disclosure Project, 70% of carbon emissions come from the industrial and business sector. While they are responsible for a large proportion of C02 emissions, they are also part of the solution. Indeed, it is undeniable that business, at all scales, plays a key role in decarbonisation and the transition to a low-carbon world. To achieve this, a 55% reduction by 2030 is needed to curb global warming. Some actions are quick to implement and inexpensive, but can significantly reduce your company’s carbon footprint. For this question, we propose a format that will be developed over several articles to propose different solutions and strategies to reduce your company’s carbon footprint. Our first strategy proposal revolves around the adoption of eco-responsible actions.

Adopt eco-citizen attitudes to reduce your company’s carbon footprint

1. Implementation of eco-actions

Turning off lights, reducing the room temperature, disposing of waste in the right container, not letting the water run unnecessarily, etc., are eco-friendly actions that should become automatic for your employees.

Not all buildings are equipped with the latest home automation systems to reduce energy consumption.

If you are involved in a corporate social responsibility approach, all your employees should be committed to reducing your company’s costs and carbon footprint.

2. Become a paperless company

Printing requires paper, ink, equipment and storage space, not to mention printing errors that create direct waste.

Moving your processes to a digital company will free you from buying polluting consumables.

Of course, digital also has an impact on the environment, as we will see in a later section. Finding a balance between paper and digital is essential to maintain excellent working comfort and improve your carbon footprint.

An innovative system called ‘Follow me printing’ reduces the risk of printing errors and ensures the printing of sensitive documents.

3. Use digital technology wisely

Digital technology offers a solution to paper consumption, digital meetings and so on. However, data centres are big CO2 emitters.

You should make sure that you use digital technology responsibly, for example by not sending heavy emails. When sending attachments to several recipients, it is probably better to share a link to these documents (via an online sharing solution or a shared directory).

For your web searches, you can use a green search engine such as Ecosia, which offsets your CO2 emissions.

Finally, for your website and software, you can follow the rules of green UX and green code, use open source tools and use the services of a green host.

4. Recycle all waste

Waste sorting is one of the first steps that can be taken to reduce a company’s carbon footprint. It classifies traditional :

  • Paper/cardboard

  • Metal

  • Plastic

  • Glass

  • Wood

  • Electrical and electronic equipment

  • Lighting fixtures and fittings

  • Specific industrial wastes

You should also be aware that your empty ink cartridges can be recycled or burned. Also remember to sort your biodegradable waste (peelings, coffee grounds, etc.) for composting.

Hybrid solar panels, the ideal solution for your company to achieve carbon neutrality.

As explained above, companies and industries are key players in the fight against global warming and at Abora we are convinced that we cannot just give big speeches to business people asking them to change and imposing change on them, but that we must be able to offer them effective and profitable solutions. This is the idea behind our technological solution. Indeed, Abora hybrid solar panels offer industries and businesses a two-in-one solution with the best cost-effectiveness on the market and without investment. You have a solution to reduce your carbon footprint, act in favour of the environment while saving on your energy bill and, as a bonus, your company is more competitive.

Do you know that…

Did you know that a person's carbon footprint represents the total amount of greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide (CO2), emitted directly or indirectly to support their daily activities and lifestyle? This includes not only emissions from household energy consumption, such as electricity and heating, but also those related to transport, food, consumer goods and even leisure activities.
