At Abora Solar we believe it is not only important to offer the most efficient technology, but also to be transparent about our environmental impact. That’s why we have a verified EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) for our hybrid solar panels. But what exactly is an EPD and what information does it provide?

A complete overview of the environmental impact

An EPD is a technical but easily understandable document that summarises the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle. That is, from the extraction of raw materials through manufacturing, transport, installation and use to end-of-life.

It is based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), an internationally standardised methodology that allows the measurement of key aspects such as:

  • CO₂ equivalent emissions (climate change).

  • Energy consumption and natural resources.

  • Waste generation.

  • Water and air pollution.

In order for the results to be consistent and comparable between similar products, each EPD must be prepared following specific rules known as PCR (Product Category Rules). In our case, we follow the PCR 2019:14 for construction products, according to EN 15804.

Why is a EPD useful?

Having a verified EPD (such as ours, reviewed by AENOR) ensures that the data is reliable, comparable and transparent. This provides value to both clients and specifiers, engineers and developers who are looking for sustainable and documented solutions.

In addition, more and more regulations, certifications (such as BREEAM or LEED) and public tenders value positively that a product has its EPD.

What does the EPD say about our hybrid solar panels?

Our EPD analyses the aH72SK hybrid panel and calculates its environmental footprint over a 25-year lifetime. The result is approximately 1,756 kg CO₂ equivalent per panel, considering all life cycle stages.

The impact is mainly spread over three phases:

  • Manufacturing (A1-A3): 47 % of the total.
  • Installation (A5): 22% of the total
  • Maintenance (B2): 21%.

This equates to about 934 kg CO₂ per square metre of installed panel, as each module has a usable area of 1.88 m².

Thanks to their hybrid design, which combines thermal and electrical production with an overall efficiency of 87.8 %, our panels make the best use of natural resources, generating more useful energy and reducing the impact per kWh generated.

Our commitment

At Abora Solar, we believe that sustainability is not only a question of clean energy, but also of transparency and continuous improvement. That is why having a verified EPD is a further step in our commitment to the environment and to our customers.

Do you know that…

Did you know that an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is like a ‘nutrition label’ of a product's environmental impact? Just as labels on food tell you how many calories or fat a product has, an EPD shows you verified data on how much a product pollutes throughout its entire life cycle: from the extraction of raw materials to its final disposal.
